Inception Music Comparison (by camiam321)

James Cameron's Next Plan To Reinvent Cinema

Should films be shot at a higher frame-rate? I would say, perhaps not all, because it loses the dream-like quality that comes along with the 24fps experience.

But back in the day, action stars like Bruce Lee had to slow down their motions because they were too quick for the 24 frames per second of the cameras. There is no excuse for that limitation anymore. I think in the case of action movies and movies whose settings are already quite surreal a faster frame rate could be quite effective.

The Avatar sequel Cameron has planned, for example, I think could make good use of this. An eye-candy film like Suckerpunch or Transformers I think could make good use of this. On the other hand, for the cinematic pacing of an Oscar-winning drama, I would not be quite ready to commit to faster frame rates just yet.

“Slow down everyone/ You’re moving too fast/ Frames can’t catch you when/ You’re moving like that” — from “Slow Down” by Jack Johnson, lyrics inspired by the aforementioned phenomenon described in the production of Bruce Lee’s films. Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson himself studied film before making it with his music career.

Distribution and Promotion

Wondering about means of distribution without access to the theater circuit and ins with the major studios? This article from ReadWriteWeb suggests four means of online-based distribution including sites that print on-demand DVDs to order, list on sites like Amazon for purchase, etc.:

Cafepress: http://www.cafepress.com/
(offers the most basic of on demand DVD duplication. You’ll have to sell via your Cafepress store, though.)

Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/
(another basic option for creating print on demand DVDs. For now DVDs can only be sold via the Lulu Marketplace, though they are working on an expanded distribution service.)

CreateSpace: https://www.createspace.com/
(may be the best option right now for on demand DVD publishing for three reasons:
1. They offer HD DVD duplication
2. they’re owned by Amazon, so your DVDs are sold through Amazon, including the option of Amazon UnBox downloads, 3. Amazon ownership also means increased chances of getting your film listed on IMDB.)

Yet another option is Cruxy (http://www.cruxy.com/) where you can sell downloads of your film using Paypal. You could, of course, do this through your own site or blog, but that could become cost prohibitive due to bandwidth.

The failure to make 3D mainstream continues.

The Social Network, Where Women Never Have Ideas

A fair critique of the inaccuracies of portrayal within The Social Network. On one hand I saw elements of it fall outside the Hollywood model, but this article highlights how it was also subject to some of Hollywood’s worst practices.

It is a rare treat that you get to leave a theater disliking the protagonist but still enjoying the film. The Social Network is one such treat.

Some have likened the picture to a 21st-century Citizen Kane, and in some respects such a comparison is merited, though where Kane reached the audiences of the end of the real Kane (William Randolph Heart’s) life, The Social Network captures the real media mogul Mark Zuckerberg still in the prime of life with billions and years to alter his legacy outside the scope of the film.
